چکیده

Objective: This study aims at investigating helicopter pilots’ strategies to achieve ship deck landing. Background: Helicopter maritime operations are challenging, especially when it comes landing on the moving decks of small ships, such as frigates, which can lead dramatic accidents.Method: Expert pilots were requested fly full maneuver from approach touchdown in an immersive simulator. Two sea states (3 and 4 Douglas Sea scale) their resulting movements used. Changes altitude correlated with heave throughout maneuvers order scrutinize helicopter-deck coupling. The energy impact was measured. Results: dynamics coupling evolved through two phases during maneuver: Initially, no then, phase between vertical displacements displacements. Moreover, reached higher values within last 15 m landing, corresponding a hover touchdown, correlation increased level. might help improving safety since greater lesser kinetic impact. Conclusion: Coupling seems be efficient strategy minimize impact. Questions arise both rationale perceptual invariant behind behavior indicate necessity further investigation.

Helicopter Ship Board Landing System

Relative navigation of an aircraft (fixed wing or helicopter) close to ships at sea is a unique navigation problem. Shipboard helicopter operations provide a difficult operational environment. Wind over deck and wake turbulence shed by ship super structure offer challenging and unpredictable conditions during takeoff and landing. This is especially true in the operational environment that inclu...

Selecting the Visual Landing Markers Located on a Ship Deck for UAV Automatic Landing

Of all the flight modes of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), the landing approach and the landing itself are the most difficult and dangerous ones. To perform an automatic landing on a ship deck using a computer vision system (CVS), a UAV must analyze the visual landing markers located on the deck. When the UAV is about to start landing, these markers must be clearly visible and discernible. The...

Improving Energy Efficiency of Ships through Optimisation of Ship Operations

Increased environmental concerns, resulted in new legislation, and high and volatile fuel prices are today’s driving forces to reduce operational costs and become greener. Reduction of fuel consumption acts as the main contributor towards this. In the context of the given economic pressure and from international law point of view, the amount of energy-savings by vessel fuel should be increased ...

Computational fluid dynamics simulations of ship airwake

Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulations of ship airwakes are discussed in this article. CFD is used to simulate the airwakes of landing helicopter assault (LHA) and landing platform dock-17 (LPD-17) classes of ships. The focus is on capturing the massively separated flow from sharp edges of blunt bodies, while ignoring the viscous effects. A parallel, finitevolume flow solver is used wit...

Airflow Hazard Visualization for Helicopter Pilots

Airflow hazards such as vortices or low level wind shear have been identified as a primary contributing factor in many helicopter accidents. US Navy ships generate airwakes over their decks, creating potentially hazardous conditions for shipboard rotorcraft launch and recovery. Recent sensor developments may enable the delivery of airwake data to the cockpit, where visualizing the hazard data m...
